In addition to its beautiful beaches, Del Mar is first and foremost known for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, which features live horse racing. Most memorably, the Del Mar Race Track was the site of Seabiscuit's legendary 1938 win. Adjacent to the Race Track, the Del Mar Fairgrounds hosts a variety of events, like antique shows, pet shows, and home exhibitions.

Another popular attraction in Del Mar is Freeflight, a little sanctuary for exotic tropical birds. For a negligible admission fee, visitors can spend time petting, holding and talking to birds like cockatoos and macaws.
